“Mummy, my dearest Mummy, I love you so much more than you can imagine on earth. On earth I never realised I loved you so much. Please Mummy, forget the past, for now I am very happy…”

~ Karl’s first words, from the afterlife, to his mother Nan.

“I had absolutely no leanings towards spirituality or spiritualism for that matter,” says Nan Umrigar. “ But all of this changed with the death of my son Karl, a champion jockey, whose accident on the race track of Mumbai cut short a brilliant career. My grieving family questioned the unjust hand of fate, and nothing could fill the void, till the time I met some people who communicated with their loved ones from the spirit world.”

Soon, Nan also began communicating with her son and received messages that were to change her life forever. Sounds came in from the silence – conquering the great divide and proving that there is something far beyond the life we live. Sounds of Silence traces in moving detail her joy at coming in touch with Karl once again, and her gradual introduction to Meher Baba, her son’s guru in the afterlife.

In Sounds of Silence Nan bares her soul, reflecting her own initial scepticism and doubts, until the weight of the evidence left her in no doubt about the reality of the messages. This is a book that challenges many concepts about life and death, and particularly life after death.

Originally self-published, Sounds of Silence fast became an ‘under-ground’ bestseller, and a tremendous source of strength for thousands who were drawn to it. This is a story of a mother’s unrelenting hope, and of a love that never dies.

“Nan Umrigar’s astonishing and well-illustrated story will certainly open up many minds. It asks many questions and provides some answers that give new insights of life’s greatest mysteries.”

E
Eruch, Voice of Baba – Interpreter of His gestures

“This book is a strong guide to all and for all towards the Truth. It is not only well written and beautifully designed, but it points to God’s unfathomable ways and the uniqueness of each soul’s journey to the source.”

D
Don Stevens, close friend and Editor of Meher Baba’s books

“The book expresses events and thoughts in a simple manner and is a valuable contribution in this area of experience. Everything is laid out without apology, softening of the truth or attempt to pretend. The book is completely absorbing and difficult to put down. It is a splendid book and a classic contribution to spiritual literature.”

R
R. A. Mahiema, Series Producer, Reality TV, UK

“There have been so many miracles that have occurred since I read Sounds of Silence, all the ways Meher Baba and Karl revealed themselves to me through Nan, and guided me forward. And I know that this experience of having connected with that realm and contributing in my own little way through audio-visual medium, has reshaped my own calling!”

C
Citadel Magazine, Pune

“Sounds of Silence is a story of a love that never dies. The book speaks of what all of us are curious about – the paranormal. But Nan does more, she bares her soul and writes about a love that began with her son but culminated with the writing of Sounds of Silence.”

A
Ashvina Vakil, Society Magazine

“Sounds of Silence is a beautiful, moving record of a mother’s interaction with her young son after he died as a result of an accident. The book is simply written, endearing in its humour and its refusal to preach. It is a story of God-realisation, of Hope, of peace and of strength, meant especially for people disillusioned by life and God as Nan herself once was.”

S
Suma Varughese, Life Positive Magazine

“Ever since Sounds of Silence appeared in 1996, it has led a charmed life. The book received favourable reviews even in the mainstream press. It was quoted, talked about, passed from hand to hand. By now it has acquired the status of a spiritual gem, one that has helped many take their first faltering steps on the path. That Nan and her book have given hope and succour to thousands at the depths of their despair is indubitable.”

S
Sujata Assomull, The Indian Express

“Hope is the underlying theme in the book and with complete candour Nan tells of her experiences.”

M
Meher Castelino, The Sunday Free Press

“One of the most honest and touching books I have read in my life. I consider it an important publication of the present times, right here in India, which recounts the theory of life after death. It is written so simply and yet from the heart.”

H
Hemal Ashar, Sunday Mid-Day

“Intense and moving, Sounds of Silence is an unusual story of love, life and death.”

N
Nisha Ghosh, The Times of India, Pune

“For Nan, the messages from Karl have cleared her doubts about the reality of the spirit world, and for many others it has reaffirmed the beauty and love that exists there.”
